Lauren Phillips: You’ll Always Find a Home with Us Published February 2, 2021 Joanne (Lauren Phillips), is just getting settled in for the night when Nick (Dick Chibbles) knocks on her door. Lauren answered the knock and her goddaughter Avery, played by Paisley Porter, jumped into her arms. Lauren is stunned as she looks to the detective from the police for help. The world around them collapses when Avery’s parents are killed in a tragic car accident. Avery isn’t related to Nick or Joanne. They will do all they can to care for her. However, Nick becomes more and more uncomfortable living in the same house as Avery. Avery is omnipresent in their lives and not allowing for privacy. Nick is even more worried that Avery doesn’t appear to be grieving. Joanne is convinced that something is wrong with Avery and he attempts to talk to her. However, Joanne insists this is how Avery processes trauma so they must be there for Avery. Nick accepts it reluctantly, but admits that some of his frustrations stemmed from the fact they couldn’t spend any alone time together. Avery is now able to step out for a second, so perhaps they can have a moment just about them.
